 Gamer's Bio FAQ

  • What is this site?
    • This is a website dedicated to helping you remember what games you play and what you think about them. After playing a game, we found that weeks, months, or years later, we cannot recall why we loved/hated a game or what aspects were the best/worst. This website lets you journal that information as a record for yourself.
  • Is this a blog?
    • Yes, of sorts. The difference is that this is not a geneneral purpose blog site. This site allows you to blog video games and rate the games and your own experiences.
  • Does this cost money?
    • Not for you. The developers pay in money and time to develop the site, maintain the infrastructure, and keep the Internet connection alive, but that does not cost you anything. You only pay by [hopefully] writing blogs and reviews and thus adding to the content of the site.
  • How do you rate games?
    • Games are rated on an honest scale of 1-10. That is, 5 is not a poor rating, it is right in the middle, average. By this system, a 7 is a very good game, 8 is exceptional. This may contrast with many commercial sites, where anything below an 8 is a low rating and below 7 is very poor.
    • The overall score for a game is currently a simple average of all individual scores. Each user, in turn, has an overall score that is an average of his/her individual scores from each blog entry.
  • What if I don't agree with you?
    • In the future you will have a component on your own page where you will be free to redefine your usage of the scale. We are also considering a weighted average of sorts for your scores. See below for explanation.
  • What about this weighted average?
    • Since this is a blog of sorts, you can have multiple reviews for a single game, each with a separate rating. Currently, those ratings are all averaged to present your score for the whole game on the site. We are considering a weighted average to influence the composite score rather than a simple average. We will keep you posted on our progress in that department.
  • How do I get started?
    • Create an account, if you do not already have one. Pick a game that you have played and review it! Or pick a game that you just started and write about your first impressions. Or pick a game that hasn't been released yet, but that you have heard about and rate the hype. Basically, blog video games, it's that simple!
  • A game that I want to write about is not on your site!
    • This is definitely a problem that you will experience sooner or later with this site. We are not a commercial venture and have no automatic updating process when new games are announced/released. If (and when) this problem occurs, please email me and we will get the game into the database ASAP.
  • You don't automatically add new games?
    • In a word, no. We do not have that capability, nor do we know where we could acquire such information without paying a hefty price. If you have a solution in mind, please email me. I would love to hear from you about this!
