A non-traditional and somewhat cumbersome control scheme are increasing the learning curve and so reducing my initial impression about this title.
The graphics look solid and the game is unfolding at a decent pace, but a few things bug me. Not having played any Metroid titles since the original, I am unfamiliar with the evolving universe of the Metroid games, whatever that may be. The beginning of the game failed to provide any kind of introduction to set the stage and so I am left wondering about everything, including who I am supposed to be (yes, I realize that I am Samus, but that doesn't tell me anything).
Having to walk around with an alternate view (scanning mode) to try and find signs that I can read to access the story is kind of annoying. Having to read snippets, tidbits and storyline teasers is one thing, but having to look around multiple times with different views causes the game to drag.
Overall I like the game, but having to stop, hold the right trigger, and then move the joystick just to look up and down? in a first person shooter?
