Though I still feel that the controls are lacking, the overall game finally came together nicely.
I liked the level design and on one hand, I enjoyed returning to areas that I had previously visited (while searching for the Artifacts). On the other hand, retracing steps through the same old areas offers less enjoyment than discovering new places.
In the end, the game turned out to be pretty fun. It had excellent graphics, great sound, and a nice combination of exploration and action, despite the requirement to revisit old places.
Later I heard that this was essentially a remake of Super Metroid, but in 3D, so that was an interesting side note, just FYI.
