While the combat is not very satisfying, the parkour-like action is a blueprint for many games that succeeded it.
Rhama, the captain of a ship and dashing leading man, is your character. The story is engaging and entertaining so far, with an excellent setup that has me chasing evil across the high seas! The voice acting cast includes the legendary Tony Jay, which always adds +1 to any game I play.
Rhama will attempt to climb over, on, and around anything nearly automatically, lending to the parkour flair. Though sometimes frustrating and filled with trial and error as you work through puzzles, I find completing them to be satisfying enough to offset the hardship.
The combat, on the other hand, still feels messy. I have limited range and my sword swipes feel desperate and "button-mashy". That said, as I become more familiar with it, I have found some interesting environmental hazards that I can toss foes into, like huge fires and spinning saw blades. Who doesn't appreciate that?!
While not perfect, it is clear that this game predicts games like God of War, Assassin's Creed, Mirror's Edge, and Uncharted. In that way, it is keeping good company and deserves a look.
