I'm sick of the Mog, Kupo!

The "gameplay mechanics" in this game are so transparent that the story is irrelevant. For example, they have some really lame matching and math puzzles, all conducted on a board hovering in empty space. The narrative they attempt to tie this to the actual game with does nothing to justify either the mini-game, or the setting.

I found another "mini-game", which is nothing more than a trivia bot that asks questions about the world, characters, and setting. That's. not. fun. Remember Blitz Ball from Final Fantasy X? It was a deeper game. It was also integrated with the world. People talked about it. You could scout out players and recruit them for your team. By comparison, a trivia bot is pitiful.

I take the narrative as a core component of any Final Fantasy title. In this sequel, they took a minor character and added an irritating sidekick (the Mog). The story promises to be interesting, with the possibility of unexpected results from changing the timeline. So far, after about 27 or so hours, the larger narrative has failed to overshadow the dull minor characters who have no business in a leading role.

The last thing I did was get a mission to hunt down five Widgets hidden on various levels ("points in the timeline"), most of which I have already visited. Bored and disgusted, I shut the game off after going back to three of these old locations and finding nothing new, save the Widget hovering there. I thought for a while about coming back to the game, considering it for a few days. Finally I decided that I have better games to play and should not waste any more of my energy on this title.
