Despite an improved combat system over the previous FF XIII entries, this game is completely bogged down by its insistence on hand-holding the player through every step.

I played the game on Steam using the Xbox One controller. The graphics are definitely PS3 era and do not hold up too well.

The real issue is that the game will not stop dragging the player by the nose through every single step of each quest. Maybe the hand-holding is reduced later in the game, but at least for the first few hours, you cannot take 3 steps without Hope chiming in with exactly what you must do for the next step of the quest. If it's not Hope, it is a random bystander you talk to, who explicitly gives you a thinly veiled "the next step is right over there" remark. It's like the designers focus-tested the game and added more hand-holding every single time any tester did not immediately race to the next waypoint in a quest.

The story so far seems to be aiming to bring everything in the trilogy to a close, which would be nice, though I cannot be sure, since i am barely 4 hours into it.

If you are interested in how things play out in the story, I recommend skipping this one and just watching the cutscenes or key story points on YouTube.
